Fantasy is hardly an escape from reality. It’s a way of understanding it. Like all the fantasy-based web series, Cursed is one of the best fantasy drama web television series. The season 1 finale leaves many things unresolved, so here’s what we know so far about season 2’s renewal status, its possible release date, and how the story might continue.
Cursed Season 1: All About The Series
The web series Cursed is based on the novel of the same name by Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler. It was premiered on Netflix on 17 July 2020. The set location of the series is the United Kingdom.
Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes compiled 46 reviews, identified 70% of them as positive, and assessed an average rating of 6.03/10. The website’s critics consensus states, “Cursed’s first season isn’t as subversive as its source material, but strong plotting and a heroic performance from Katherine Langford make for an enjoyable escape. Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the show a score of 57 out of 100 based on 11 reviews.

Cursed Season 1: Where was the series filmed?
Cursed web series was filmed in Deepcut, England, the filming of the first season of the series began in January 2019 and the shooting was done by the end of the year, that is November 2019.
Cursed Season 1: Plot Details
Based on the New York Times bestselling book, Cursed is a re-imagination of the Arthurian legend, told through the eyes of Nimue, a young woman with a mysterious gift who is destined to become the powerful Lady of the Lake.
After her mother’s death, she finds an unexpected partner in Arthur, a humble mercenary, in a quest to find Merlin and deliver an ancient sword. Over the course of her journey, Nimue will become a symbol of courage and rebellion against the terrifying Red Paladins, and their complicit King Uther.
Has Netflix Renewed Cursed For Season 2?
The show hasn’t officially been renewed yet, which is to be expected considering that it only premiered a few days ago on July 17. That said, the fantasy series is currently trending at number one on Netflix, which means that fans are engaged and watching. That’s a good sign. With any luck, Cursed should be renewed in no time.
Speaking with Elle, Langford thinks there’s “plenty of stories left” and feels that Season 1 was only the start of a long journey for Nimue.
Cursed Season 2: When will it air?
As there is no official announcement regarding the renewal of the series, we have to wait for its second season.
Netflix is yet to give an official greenlight to Cursed season 2, but if the streaming service follows past form, we’d expect a renewal announcement to come around a month after season 1’s debut. The show dropped on July 17, so we’d hope for news in mid-August.
Assuming the show does get picked up for a second season, it’s unlikely we’d see it before the second half of 2021. There are usually around 18 months between seasons of Netflix shows – particularly those with production values as lavish as Cursed’s.
Cursed Season 2: How long will it be?
Seeing that the first season of Cursed was ten episodes long so we can assume that the Cursed Season 2 would contain ten episodes.
When asked from Arthur about his character in the second season he said:
“I honestly don’t know where my character’s going. Showrunner Tom Wheeler hasn’t told me yet. But if there is a season two, I think the finale is an amazing launching pad for that, because for me, personally, the show just gets better and better.
“I love where we end it. Fingers crossed. Hopefully, everybody watches. But there’s so much room to grow. It just feels like the beginning – we just scratched the surface of what the show could be, and how far it could go.
Cursed Season 2: Cast And Characters
It would be silly to imagine Cursed season 2 without Katherine Langford as Nimue, so she will be back. The other cast members might include Gustav Skarsgård as Merlin, Devon as Terrell will be performing as Arthur, Emily Coates as sister Eris, Matt Stokoe as Green Knight or Gaiwan, Shalom Brune-Franklin as Igraine aka Morgana, and other fresh faces.
Cursed Season 2: Plotline
It’s hard to say for sure, but it’s rather clear that the sophomore season will follow through on the myriad of plotlines left unresolved in Season 1. Nimue, now Queen of the Fey, has been shot with an arrow and is presumed dead. Meanwhile, Merlin, now wielding the Sword of Power, beheaded Father Carden, the leader of the Red Paladins.
Arthur found himself fighting alongside the Red Spear, aka Guinevere, and the Weeping Monk revealed to be Lancelot, has abandoned his post with the Red Paladins, riding off with young Percival following the death of Gawain, the Green Knight.
This is mere speculation, but it’s possible that Nimue will be saved from the lake with her mysterious powers more fully realized. Nimue has yet to earn the title of Lady of the Lake, primarily going by the moniker of Wolf-Blood Witch in Season 1. That could change in Season 2.
It’s also possible that everyone will think she’s dead for a while and move on without her, which could see the development of a potential love triangle between Nimue-Arthur-Guinevere.
